Das Rahmenprogramm wird sich am Thema des Spieltages orientieren. Auf dem Spielfeld im Stadion Festwiese werden die Arrows ab 15.30 Uhr versuchen an das Saisonziel Meisterschaft einen weiteren Schritt heranzukommen. Zu Gast sind die Albershausen Crusaders, die im Hinspiel mit 0:63 unter die Räder kamen.

Die Planungen für das Spiel laufen bereits auf Hochtouren. Schließlich will man dem amerikanischen Gästen einiges bieten. Auf dem Spielfeld soll es Football vom Feinsten geben und das Drumherum soll passend gestaltet sein. Bereits ab 12 Uhr wird sich die Jugend mit der Spielgemeinschaft Pforzheim/Heilbronn in der Jugendaufbauliga messen, ehe ab 15.30 Uhr das Herrenteam ins Geschehen eingreift. Gegen die Albershausen Crusaders soll die makellose Bilanz, sieben Siegen stehen Null Niederlagen entgegen, aufrecht erhalten werden. Gelingt dies, sind die Playoffs sicher.
Aber warum feiern die Stuttgarter überhaupt einen American Day?
Zuerst einmal finden sich in der Trainercrew drei Amerikaner. Zach McCarthy, verantwortlich für die Verteidigung, Jerry Lindsay, verantwortlich für den Angriff und Robert Collins, der Defensive Backs Coach, sind anteilig am Erfolg des Teams beteiligt. Neben den Männern auf der Seitenlinie unterstützen zahlreiche Spieler auf dem Feld die Arrows. Robert Smith, Chris Jackson, William Somerville und Roger Lynch sind Bestandteil des besten Angriffs der Liga, während Allen Bridges und Tony Phillips wichtige Hilfe in zweitbesten Verteidigung sind. Jerry’s Sohn J.D. hat das Team ebenfalls unterstützt, nun ist er aber wieder in den USA am College. Zusammen mit ihren Kollegen vom TEAM USA wollen die Trainer in ihrem ersten Jahr mit den Arrows die Meisterschaft nach Stuttgart holen.
Um das richtige Umfeld zu bieten, starten die Silver Arrows mit der Teamvorstellung. Im Anschluss werden Standartenträger die Nationalflaggen ins Stadion bringen und die Nationalhymnen vorgetragen. Den Münzwurf wird Major General Catto vom amerikanischen Stützpunkt vollziehen. Und für die Halbzeit wird es neben einem Fan Wettbewerb auch einen Auftritt der besonderen Art geben.
Höhepunkt ist natürlich das Spiel des Tabellenführers und Vize-Meisters, der Stuttgart Silver Arrows, gegen die Albershausen Crusaders. Mit einem Sieg halten die Arrows weitere Titelaspiranten auf Abstand. Derzeit sind die Silberpfeile auf dem besten Weg zu einer „Perfect Season“, etwas Besonderem im American Football. Doch weder Verantwortliche noch Spieler verschwenden einen Gedanken an diese Besonderheit. „Wir verlieren vielleicht ein Spiel und sind trotzdem Meister“, gibt Headcoach Jürgen Doh zu. „Andererseits ist es möglich, dass wir ein Spiel verlieren und wieder nur Vize werden“, führt er weiter aus.
In der Tat haben die Arrows den Titel noch lange nicht in der Tasche. Unter Umständen kommt es am 11. August im Stadion Festwiese zum Showdown zwischen den Arrows und den Kaiserslautern Pikes. „Daran denken wir, wenn es so weit ist“, bremst Jerry Lindsay die Erwartungen. Der Offensiv Coordinator denkt wie seine Kollegen vorerst von Spiel zu Spiel. „Die Crusaders haben zwar einen schweren Saisonstart gehabt, aber sie haben nicht aufgegeben und sind über die letzten Wochen immer besser geworden“, gibt Defensiv Coordinator Zach McCarthy zu bedenken.
Überhaupt zollen Spieler und Verantwortliche den Crusaders Respekt. Schließlich können die Arrows gut nachempfinden, wie man sich fühlt, wenn einem kein Sieg gelingen will. „Auch wir sind damals daran nicht zerbrochen, sondern wir haben eine Menge daraus gelernt und sind daran gewachsen“, erklärt Doh. Albershausen wird die gleiche Erfahrung machen und die Silver Arrows bereiten sich daher akribisch auf den kommenden Gegner vor.
American Day with the Silver Arrows
On 28. of July the Stuttgart Silver Arrows will welcome all Americans free entry for the second to last home game of the season. The program around the game will have the same theme. At 3.30 pm at stadium Festwiese, the Arrows will try to take it a step further to the main target, the championship. The Albershausen Crusaders will be the guest team. They lost to the Arrows in the first game 0:63.
With high octane, the Arrows are planning this event. At the end these American guests should have something to talk about. On the field should be German style Football at his best and the rest will be American style. Already at 12.00 am the youth football team will challenge the syndicate of the Pforzheim and the Heilbronn youth team. From 3.30 pm on the field will be in hands of the first team of the Silver Arrows. Against the Albershausen Crusaders the Perfect Season should be held alive. With a win, the playoff will be for sure.
But why are the Arrows celebrating an American Day?
At first three of their coaches are American. Zach McCarthy (DISA), the Defensive Coordinator, Jerry Lindsay (52nd Signal BN), Offensive Coordinator and Robert Collins (MWR), Defensive Backs Coach, are partly responsible for the success of the Arrows. Besides those guys on the sideline the team gets support on the field too. Robert Smith (52nd Signal BN), Chris Jackson (EUCOM/DIA), William Somerville (SOCEUR) and Roger Lynch are boosting the leagues best Offense, while Allen Bridges (52nd Signal BN) and Tony Phillips (EUCOM) are a big part of one of the best Defenses in the league. Jerry’s son J.D. joined the team too, but now left to the states for college. Together with their colleagues from TEAM USA the coaches try to make the championship in their first year with the Arrows.
For the Fans the Silver Arrows will start with a performance of the teams starting Offense and Defense. After the presentation Colour Guards will represent the flags and the national anthems of both nations will be played. The Coin Toss on the field will be made by Major General Catto and for half time a special appearance and a fan contest are in work.
The capper will be the seniors game of the league leader and vice-champion, the Silver Arrows, versus the Albershausen Crusaders. The Arrows need a win, to keep the haunters in check. At present, the Arrows are on pace for a Perfect Season, something special in Football. But neither the team nor the team officials are wasting a single thought on this special case. “Maybe we lose a game, but we can get champions “, Headcoach Jürgen Doh commits. “Or we lose one game and will be vice-champions again”, he says.
At this point the Arrows are not the champions. Maybe on 11. of August it will come to a showdown for the championship, when the Arrows will host the closest chaser, the Kaiserslautern Pikes. “We think about this, when it is time for, but not now”, Jerry Lindsays slows the expectations. The offensive coordinator thinks from game to game, like his colleagues. “The Crusaders had a bad start to the season, but they have never surrendered and got better every week since then”, defensive coordinator Zach McCarthy argues his concerns.
Actually the team and the officials have a high respect for the Crusaders staying as a team. The Arrows can remember, what it’s feels like, when you do not win a single game a hole season. “We stayed together that hard time and we’ve learned a lot and we grew”, Doh explains. Albershausen will make the same experience and therefore the Arrows are prepare the team painstaking.
